Every photograph and all descriptive metadata shown here come from PhillyHistory.org, a project of the Philadelphia Department of Records and the City Archives. This site only maps publicly available preview images and their metadata.

The images displayed here are preview-sized. To obtain full-resolution files, or to license images for publication or other use, please visit the original record on PhillyHistory.org, where prints and licensed originals can be purchased. Each photo's detail panel links directly to its source record.

Inspiration

This project is directly inspired by OldNYC by Dan Vanderkam, which maps the New York Public Library's historical photo collection. Its open-source code shaped the design and interaction of this map.
